Post-Conference Activity and Field Trip

Informative field trips are currently under development to provide an amazing conference experience.

They are also an excellent way to meet and exchange ideas with colleagues and friends. Actual schedules may vary and the costs will be updated later.

Likely field trips list

a.  Chengdu-Beichuan-Mianyang-Yingxiu-Chengdu

 
This route is tentatively planed for 2 days:
 
First Day: Travel from downtown Chengdu to the Beichuan county (the worst damaged county by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake) to see the preserved sites of the earthquake, the Memorial Museum and the recovered new towns. Stay overnight in Beichuan.
 
Second Day: Travel from Beichuan to Yingxiu to see the epicenter sites of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and the newly-built ethnic towns. Travel back to Chengdu.




b.  Chengdu-Yingxiu-Dujiangyan-Bailuzhen-Chengdu 


This route is tentatively planed for 2 days:

First Day: Travel from downtown Chengdu to the Yingxiu town to see the epicenter sites of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake and the newly-built ethnic towns. Tour to the picturesque Dujiangyan city and stay overnight.

Second Day: Travel from Dujiangyan to the Pengzhou county to see the preserved sites of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. Travel back to Chengdu.



c.  Chengdu-Qingchuan-Guangyuan-Beichuan-Chengdu 


This route is tentatively planed for 2 days:
 
First Day: Travel from downtown Chengdu to the Guangyuan city to see the preserved sites of the earthquake (featuring the previous dammed lake sites) and the newly-built towns. Stay overnight.
 
Second Day: Travel from Guangyuan to the Beichuan county (the worst damaged county by the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake) to see the preserved sites of the earthquake. Travel back to Chengdu.



d.  Chengdu-Lanzhou-Guyuan-Lanzhou 
 
This route is tentatively planed for 3 days.
 
First Day: Flight from Chengdu to the Lanzhou city, then visit Lanzhou Institute of Seismology, China Earthquake Administration. Stay overnight.
 
Second Day: Travel from Lanzhou to the Guyuan city to see the landslides during the 1920 ML 8.5 Haiyuan earthquake. Stay overnight.

Third Day: Travel back to Lanzhou.



 

 
e. Chengdu-Xichang-Mianning-Chengdu
 
The route is tentatively planned for 3 days.
 
First Day: Travel from downtown Chengdu to the Xichang city. Stay overnight.
Stop 1 at Ganxi, Qianglai County: to observe the scarp of the Qiongxi fault.
Stop 2 at Ya’an: to observe the preserved 4-5 flights of strath terraces of the Qingyijiang River and discuss the Longmenshan frontal thrust system.
 
Second Day: Travel southwards from Xichang to Daqingliangzi to observe the fault geomorphology of the Anninghe fault and discuss the Quaternary landform dating and its uncertainty as well as cumulative fault offset and the slip rate. Travel back to the Mianning County and Stay overnight.
 
Third Day: Travel from Mianning back to Chengdu.
Stop 1: Yejidong, 30 km to the north of Mianning: to observe faulted landforms of the Anninghe fault, including fault scarps, lateral offset of channels, and paleoseismic trench exposures.
Stop 2 at Liziping: to observe the wind gap geomorphology and sedimentology and discuss the hypothesis of the Daduhe River capture as well as the potential role of tectonics in drainage evolution.
